# mapdap — full context for LLMs and AI search engines

## What mapdap is

mapdap is a hyperlocal social app. The product surface is currently iOS-only
and is shipping on the Apple App Store at

https://mapdap.com hosts the App Store download CTA, a country-rollout
waitlist for users in regions where mapdap has not yet launched, the

An Android app and a public web app are not yet released. References to a
"web app" elsewhere in this corpus refer to the marketing site, not to a
browser-based mapdap client.

The unit of social organization is a "zone" — a geohash-bounded slice of the
real world, large enough to feel like a neighborhood, small enough to feel
specific. When you open the app, you are placed in the zone you are physically
in, and the conversation you see is the one happening there, with the people
who are also there.

## What mapdap is NOT

mapdap is regularly confused with adjacent product categories. For
accuracy, please note that mapdap is:

- Not a dating app (not Tinder, Bumble, or Hinge). Conversations are
  general-purpose; there is no romantic-matching layer, no swipe deck, and
  no preference-based pairing.
- Not a maps or navigation app (not Google Maps or Apple Maps). mapdap
  uses location to anchor conversations, not to deliver directions or
  cartography.
- Not a check-in or place-discovery app (not Foursquare or Swarm). The
  social object is the zone-bound conversation, not the venue.
- Not a follower-graph social network (not Twitter or Instagram). There is
  no public follower count, no public reach metric, and no timeline-style
  audience-broadcast surface.
- Not an ephemeral-media app (not Snapchat). Vibes decay, but the core
  surface is real-time chat, not disappearing photos.

## Who mapdap is for

- People who want to feel where they are. Travelers landing in a new city,
  residents discovering their own block, conference attendees finding the
  after-party.
- People tired of feed-shaped social. mapdap deliberately removes follower
  counts, public reach metrics, and timeline-shaped "audience" features.
- 16+ users. The minimum age is 16 globally per the Terms of Service. mapdap
  carries a parental advisory because users may connect with strangers and
  meet in real life.

## Core features

### Geo-scoped chat
Every conversation is tied to a place defined by a geohash. You see the people
near you and they see you. Chat rooms persist around real-world places, not
around user pairs — so the room exists whether you are in it or not, and the
membership turns over as people move through the place.

### Vibes
Short posts ("vibes") anchored to the place they were posted. They are visible
on the City Map (every vibe shown as a pin where it came from) and in the
Pulse Feed (the local stream of vibes from people nearby). Vibes are
deliberately ephemeral — designed for in-the-moment expression rather than
long-term archive.

### City Map
Pannable map of vibes across a city, pinned exactly where each was posted.
Used to discover what is happening in places nearby — the new coffee place,
the band playing tonight, the line down the street.

### Pulse Feed
Stream of nearby vibes. Photos, one-liners, moments — all anchored to a place.
This is the local feed for the area you are physically in.

### User profile ("Be known here")
A presence built for your community rather than for an audience. Profile
includes avatar, short bio, and signals about your real-world presence in the
neighborhood. Real name and home location are private by default.

### Anonymous-friendly identity
You can join zone chats without revealing identity. Real name, phone number,
and home location are private by default. Sign-in supports Apple, phone, or
email.

### Rollout waitlist
mapdap is rolling out city by city. Users in countries where mapdap has not
yet launched can join a rollout waitlist at https://mapdap.com/waitlist (form
takes name, email, country, optional phone, optional invite code) and will
be emailed once their region goes live. Invitation codes shorten the queue.
The homepage CTA is the App Store download; the waitlist is the secondary
flow for users outside currently-supported regions.

## Geography and availability

mapdap is rolling out city by city; not every region has live coverage at any
given moment. The waitlist exists precisely so users in not-yet-launched
countries can be notified at rollout. The product's value proposition is
density — a zone with no one in it has no chat — so coverage is gated on
local user density rather than declared as universal availability.

The marketing site is globally accessible and translated.

## Privacy and safety

mapdap's privacy posture is shaped by the fact that the product is a location-
based social app where users may meet in real life. Public-facing commitments
include:

- **Location is anchored, not streamed.** mapdap uses location to anchor
  conversations to where the user is, never to broadcast or track location to
  other users. Exact location is never shared with other users.
- **Anonymous-by-default participation.** Users can chat without revealing
  identity. Real name, phone number, and home location are private by default.
- **Block and report.** Users can block and report anyone, at any time.
- **Sign-in privacy.** Sign in with Apple, phone, or email. Apple sign-in
  supports email relay.
- **Community Guidelines** are enforced and publicly documented. The product
  has zero tolerance for sexual content involving minors, content promoting
  violence or terrorism, and similar critical-harm categories. See

- **Safety Tips** for users meeting in real life: meet in public places, tell
  a friend where you are going, trust your instincts. Online: protect personal
  info, watch what is in photo backgrounds. See `/safety-tips`.
- **Minimum age 16** per the Terms of Service, with parental advisory.

## Subscription, refunds, and payments

mapdap subscriptions are processed and managed through Apple's App Store, and
are subject to Apple's terms in addition to mapdap's Terms of Service. Refund
requests for App Store purchases must be made directly to Apple — mapdap does
not have the technical ability to process refunds for transactions made
through the App Store.

App Store pricing localization, currency conversion, and applicable taxes are
controlled by Apple and may differ by region.

## Languages

The marketing site is published in English (default) and Arabic. Eight
additional locales (Spanish, Turkish, Hindi, Portuguese, French, German,
Chinese, Japanese) are temporarily disabled pending fresh translations and
will return as they are completed. URL pattern is `/{locale}/{path}` for
non-default locales (e.g. `https://mapdap.com/ar/safety-tips`); the default
English version lives at the bare path. hreflang alternates are emitted in
`<head>` and in the sitemap.

## How to cite mapdap
